About MyMahjong
MyMahjong is a place to learn Mahjong, practise against bots and play with friends, built around clear rules and honest scoring.
What you can do here
- Play Hong Kong Mahjong (VMC Classic and HKMA rules) or MCR, the Mahjong Competition Rules, against bots of three levels.
- Ask the Coach for hints and see why a move is suggested.
- Work out the value of a hand with the scoring calculators and read the scoring guides.
- Keep a running score with the Score Keeper when you play at a real table, and export it as a PDF.
- Play online tables with friends and bots. Online tables are for registered members; registering is free.
- Learn the basics on the Learn page and compare the main variants on the Variants page.
Why it exists
Mahjong has many variants and many rule sets, and most beginners meet them as a pile of confusing tables. MyMahjong follows the guidebooks written for beginners and clubs, so that the explanations, the scoring guides and the Coach all say the same thing.
Learning content on this site is written in our own words and illustrated with our own tile artwork.
Rules and credits
The Hong Kong rule sets are based on the rules of the Victoria Mahjong Club (VMC), British Columbia, Canada, and of the Hong Kong Mahjong Association (HKMA), Hong Kong, both used with permission. MCR follows the official Mahjong Competition Rules. MyMahjong is an independent project and is not endorsed by these organisations.
Where the project stands
Hong Kong and MCR are playable now; Riichi and American Mahjong are being prepared. Features, rules text and translations (English, Indonesian and Simplified Chinese) are still being checked and improved, so you may find mistakes.
